Medical & Product Information
OXYCONTIN OP 60 mg contains oxycodone hydrochloride 60 mg in an extended-release tablet formulation. It is an opioid analgesic indicated for the management of severe and persistent pain requiring around-the-clock opioid treatment when alternative treatment options are inadequate. It is not intended for as-needed (PRN) pain relief.
Active Ingredient: Oxycodone Hydrochloride
Strength: 60 mg
Dosage Form: Extended-Release Film-Coated Tablet
Route: Oral
Drug Class: Opioid Analgesic
U.S. Controlled Substance: Schedule II (C-II)
Prescription: Rx Only
Product Information
The current OXYCONTIN 60 mg tablet is a round, red, film-coated tablet marked “OP” on one side and “60” on the other. It contains 60 mg of oxycodone hydrochloride.
Uses
OXYCONTIN is reserved for patients with severe, persistent pain for whom continuous, around-the-clock opioid therapy is medically appropriate and alternative treatments are inadequate.
Important Safety Information
OXYCONTIN carries serious risks of addiction, abuse, misuse, overdose, and potentially fatal respiratory depression. The 60 mg strength is specifically reserved for patients who are opioid-tolerant; it should not be used as an initial opioid dose in patients without established opioid tolerance.
Combining OXYCONTIN with benzodiazepines, alcohol, or other CNS depressants can cause profound sedation, respiratory depression, coma, or death.
The extended-release tablet must be swallowed whole. It should not be cut, crushed, chewed, or dissolved because doing so can cause rapid release of oxycodone and potentially fatal overdose.
OXYCONTIN OP 60 mg is a Schedule II controlled prescription medication and should be used only exactly as prescribed and under qualified medical supervision.
