Medical & Product Information

OXYCONTIN OC 80 mg refers to the older formulation of OxyContin (oxycodone hydrochloride controlled-release). The “OC” imprint was used on the original controlled-release tablets; the 80 mg tablet was a green, round, unscored tablet marked “OC” on one side and “80” on the other.

Active Ingredient: Oxycodone Hydrochloride
Strength: 80 mg
Dosage Form: Controlled-Release / Extended-Release Tablet
Route: Oral
Drug Class: Opioid Analgesic
U.S. Controlled Substance: Schedule II (C-II)
Prescription: Rx Only

Uses

OxyContin is an extended-release opioid intended for severe, persistent pain requiring continuous, around-the-clock opioid treatment when alternative treatments are inadequate. It is not intended for occasional or as-needed pain relief.

Important Safety Information

OxyContin carries serious risks of addiction, abuse, misuse, overdose, and potentially fatal respiratory depression. The 80 mg strength is specifically labeled for opioid-tolerant patients and is not intended as an initial opioid treatment.

Combining oxycodone with benzodiazepines, alcohol, or other CNS depressants can cause profound sedation, respiratory depression, coma, or death.

Extended-release OxyContin tablets must not be cut, broken, crushed, chewed, or dissolved, because doing so can release oxycodone too rapidly and may result in a potentially fatal overdose.

Important: The “OC 80 mg” formulation is an older formulation. Current OxyContin 80 mg tablets use the “OP 80” imprint rather than “OC 80.”

OXYCONTIN 80 mg is a Schedule II controlled prescription medication and should only be used exactly as prescribed and under qualified medical supervision.
